The Bouquet of Spirals
This piece began as a simple act of repetition—a swirling motion of an acrylic marker looping over and over, creating a spiral without intention. Yet in that rhythm, the shapes began to bloom. What was once only a gesture transformed into roses. Red swirls became petals, unfolding into a bouquet. Yellow spirals followed, echoing the same rhythm, expanding the garden on paper.
With each layer, life emerged. Leaves intertwined, baby’s breath nestled between blossoms, and grassy tendrils softened the bouquet. The flowers no longer floated in isolation—they became whole, gathered, and alive. Anchoring them, I placed a blue vase against a cool background, resting on what felt like a tabletop centerpiece, grounding the energy of the blooms in a familiar setting.
This work carries a deeply personal memory. It was created during the year of my second son’s birth, while I was on maternity leave. The bouquet—unconsciously formed at the time—became more than roses. It became a symbol of new beginnings, of creation during creation. The spirals mirror the cycles of life, growth, and the expanding love that came with motherhood.
The piece has remained with me ever since, not just as one of my earliest works, but as a visual diary of that transformative moment. A bouquet of spirals, roses, and life—rooted in memory, rooted in love.
